ReconstructMe last said they were not going to develop ReconstructMe anymore, they are working on their own hardware 3D scanner. Just very odd jockeying going on, almost like it was sinister geek scheming. There is some really suspicious shit going on with the big boys like forming a 3MF consortium, a 3D model format with DRM possible, the smaller handheld 3D scanners just for facial recognition and gesture control. Reading the fine print, also only having a 3D scanning app in the SDK, main use for facial recognition and gesture control. The only cheap handheld 3D scanners at CES are the Intel Dxxx. That happened about 2 weeks before MS totally discontinued the Kinect 2, and probably are letting go of a lot of people employed on that whole area of MS.
It was strange to find that happen after finding out Microsoft did an update to 3DScan, which is the only app that works with Kinect 2, and the (final) update was broken. I had the previous version on another machine and it is working.
I mentioned that here, and a couple weeks later, a new version came out and it has been broken for the Realsense. It is a better app than Kscan, Skanect and Reconstructme while the previous version is the only stand-alone app now that works with the Realsense. Saw a website mention, many months ago, that it worked for Realsense since the 3D Systems Sense scanner is just a repackaged Realsense. Interesting thing about the 3D Sense 3D scanning app. No unnecessary Blog Spam and NO OUTSOURCING ads!
